✍️ THE ANALYSIS

Another Saturday, another trek to a ground where the away end smells of broken dreams and stale Bovril. Leyton Orient at home, us trying to cling to whatever mid-table respectability we can muster. It's the sort of fixture that doesn't get the blood pumping so much as it gets you contemplating why you didn't just stay in bed.

The numbers tell a story of two sides scrapping about in that lovely bit of the table where you're too good to panic but not good enough to dream. We're sat on 1.37 points per game, they're on 1.13. Not exactly title-winning form from either of us, is it? We're leaking goals like a knackered sieve at 1.73 per match, which at least gives us something in common with Orient who aren't far behind on 1.66. Defence is clearly a dirty word for both clubs.

Our recent form reads like a particularly uninspiring bingo card: draw, loss, draw, win, loss. The sort of sequence that keeps you exactly where you deserve to be, neither rising nor falling with any real conviction. Orient aren't much better. It's the kind of match-up that screams "entertainment for the neutrals, ulcers for the faithful."

History suggests this one won't be dull, mind you. Seven meetings between us have produced an average of 3.3 goals, which is about the only encouraging stat in this entire preview. We've won three, they've won two, and we've drawn twice. Perfectly balanced, as all things that cause maximum anxiety should be.

The prediction models reckon we're heading for a 2-2 draw with 82% confidence, which feels about right for a side that scores 1.67 and concedes 1.73. We'll probably go ahead, look comfortable for about eight minutes, concede from a set piece we should've defended better, then spend the rest of the match wondering if we've got another goal in us or if we're destined to cock it up entirely.

Brisbane Road on a February afternoon. The glamour never stops, does it? If we come away with a point, I'll take it and scarper before someone reminds us we should've won. If we somehow nick all three, I'll be suspicious it's an elaborate prank.

2-2 feels inevitable. Pack your pessimism accordingly.
