Barnsley FC Weekly Round-Up: DKD’s Price Tag, Hammill’s Coaching Call & Redfearn’s Return Hopes

Barnsley FC Weekly Round-Up - News Recap for Reds Fans

Alright, Reds – time to check in. The pitch may be empty, but behind the scenes, Oakwell’s buzzing with contract chat, nostalgic legends, and the kind of transfer whisperings that get fans twitching like a linesman with a dodgy flag. We've got coaching ambitions, talent under threat, and our fan-favourite defender being eyed up across West Yorkshire.

Here’s your full-fat, no-nonsense Barnsley FC weekly round-up.

DKD Watch: The £8 Million Question

Surprise, surprise — Davis Keillor-Dunn is being circled by clubs with bigger wallets and better WiFi. After a 19-goal season and a Player of the Year nod, it was only a matter of time before rival scouts started turning up with clipboards and binoculars.

Word is one League One club already had a cheeky offer knocked back. Championship sides are sniffing too. The club insists it’ll take a “multi-million-pound” bid to shift him — but with an £8–10 million shortfall to plug, we’re all getting twitchy.

DKD says he’s happy here. Hourihane wants him to stay. But if you think that guarantees anything under this ownership… well, bless your optimism.

From Wing Wizard to Whiteboard: Hammill Eyes a Return

If you grew up on Hammill bangers and Wembley magic, brace yourself — the man himself has (just about) retired. After finishing his career in the eighth tier with Litherland REMYCA (no, really), he’s now fully focused on coaching. And yes, he’d love to return to Oakwell.

He’s completing his UEFA B Licence and looking to launch a coaching business, but make no mistake: the love for Barnsley still burns bright. "All my memories are in Barnsley,” he said, probably wiping a tear away with his 2016 promotion medal.

Give him a whistle and let him teach our wingers how to beat a full-back, or at least how not to cross into Row Z.

Shepherd Wanted – But Reds Say “Not So Fast”

Jack Shepherd is a wanted man. After helping Bradford City to promotion during a standout loan spell, they now want him permanently. Makes sense – 49 games, three goals, and a season spent convincing their fans he’s the second coming of Franz Beckenbauer.

But Barnsley aren’t playing ball. Another loan’s off the table, and we’re not exactly in the habit of selling good players to League One rivals — well, not on purpose anyway.

Sporting Director Mladen Sormaz spoke glowingly about Shepherd’s progress. “He’s done brilliantly... we’re really proud of him,” he said. Which either means “he’s staying” or “we’re trying to drive the price up.” Take your pick.

Redfearn Reflects – and Puts Himself Back in the Shop Window

Neil Redfearn has thrown his coaching hat back into the ring — and if there’s any football justice left, someone will snatch him up sharpish. The Barnsley legend, Leeds academy hero, and all-round Yorkshire stalwart announced via LinkedIn that he’s open for business.

“I’m seeking my next challenge,” he posted — and honestly, you’d struggle to find someone better at developing young talent while keeping a club’s heart beating.

He’s worked with the likes of Mowatt, Byram, Cook, and Taylor, and he still talks about football with more sense than most technical directors on LinkedIn combined. If there's any gig going at Oakwell, give him the keys and a flask of Yorkshire Tea. Job done.

Final Whistle: Here We Go Again

New coaching ambitions. Old heroes trying to get back in. Top scorers being eyed like prime rib in a vegan buffet. It's all sounding very Barnsley, isn’t it?

We’re told this is the summer of a “reset”. Whether that means actual change or just rearranging the deckchairs on HMS Mid-Table remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure — we’ll still be here, moaning and hoping in equal measure.

Same drama, different season.
