Scotland the Brave as Tykes Stun Boro with Late Smash-and-Grab
Jason Scotland’s right foot might as well be registered as a weapon at this point. The big man struck late at the Riverside to hand Barnsley a cracking 3-2 win and keep the revival under David Flitcroft in full swing.
It all started with a slice of luck – Jim O’Brien hit a hopeful one early doors, only for it to ping off George Friend and loop hilariously over a stranded Jason Steele. But it was no laughing matter when Mustapha Carayol and Curtis Main flipped the script in the second half, putting Boro 2-1 up and threatening to ruin the party.
Enter Scott Golbourne, marauding forward like a man possessed to poke home the equaliser. And when Steele made a right mess of a back-pass, handling it just outside his own six-yard box, Barnsley had their moment. Golbourne laid it off, and Scotland didn’t need asking twice – lashing it in off the bar to seal the comeback and leave Boro fans wondering what just hit them.
Flitcroft’s Reds have now won six of their last seven and are climbing the table faster than a pint goes at last orders. From relegation fodder to fearless – this team’s got bottle.
Final Whistle
We’re not safe yet, but it’s starting to feel a bit less like life support and a bit more like a miracle. Scotland’s scoring for fun, the lads are showing serious spine, and Oakwell’s got its swagger back.
