July 2009
It's that time of year when transfer rumour and speculation is rife. Perhaps you've recently heard something via a friend of a friend or work colleague, but almost always, it's the kind of story that is not necessarily in the mainstream press or via the club's arm of communication.

How much of this has any truth or basis is obviously questionable, but like many other fans it's nice to dream and wonder, we love the banter as much as any other group of fans.

To this aim, OnThePontyEnd has created a stream of such stories via Twibes, gained from numerous sources. These "mini-releases" may contain further player information or reveal the rumour source in more detail, but will be updated (permitting) during the transfer / loan window.

So, what is a Twibe?

A twibe is a group of Twitter users interested in a common topic, i.e. BFC Transfer Rumours, who would like to be able to communicate news they hear* with each other. On each Twibe's page, there is a list of Twibe members.

According to the Daily Star, Barnsley are poised to sign centre-forward Andy Gray after having a £600,000 bid accepted by Charlton Athletic.

The former Sunderland and Burnley striker is set to undergo a medical at Oakwell and agree personal terms with the Championship outfit.

Gray has been desperate to leave the Addicks following their relegation to League One at the end of last season.

The hitman, 31, cost them £1.5million from Burnley in the January 2008 transfer window and scored nine goals in 43 appearances.

So, Barnsley are off to a flying start in pre-season. Have Reds fans just seen the signs that green shoots are indeed growing from the former Academy?

A good turn out of fans saw Barnsley record a satisfying win at Oakwell versus a creditable Ferencvaros. Simon Davey and the squad have made progress to some extent already, given wins have been hard to find in earlier pre-seasons.

Transfer activity is limited, perhaps the next few weeks will reveal exactly what we we will get in store for the 2009-2010 season, but there are promising signs in some respects.

Whilst far from reality, I've taken some satisfaction in leading the Super Reds to automatic promotion as Champions, in my first season.

In my world, Henrik Larsson is now a regular, Jon (The Beast) Parkin is back at the `well, and acquiring cultured Italians for positions in my back-four is a piece of cake.

Tonight,it's Preston North End at Home. A win tonight would take Barnsley in to an automatic promotion spot, after just four games played.

We can dream, can't we?
